This compact primate safari takes you to the heart of Uganda’s primate paradise. Kibale Forest National Park — home to 13 primate species — provides afternoon chimp tracking on Day 1. From there you drive south to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for two nights, sitting face-to-face with wild mountain gorillas in one of the world’s most moving wildlife experiences.
Depart Kampala at 7 am and drive west to Kibale Forest NP, arriving before lunch. After lunch, join an afternoon chimpanzee tracking session — guides lead you along forest trails to find habituated chimps squabbling and swinging through the canopy. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Ruwenzori View Guest House (full board).
After breakfast drive south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Ruhija sector). Bwindi’s ancient rainforest (321 sq km) shelters more than half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, alongside 90 mammal species and 23 Albertine Rift endemic birds — including the African Green Broadbill and Bar-Tailed Trogon. Settle in, relax, and rest well before tomorrow’s gorilla trek. Overnight at Ruhija Gorilla Lodge (full board).
The experience of a lifetime. Set off early into the thick, verdant rainforest, guided by experienced rangers who track a habituated gorilla family through the undergrowth. Trek times vary — these are wild animals — but when you finally settle beside a mountain gorilla family, the hour you spend in their presence is something you will carry forever. Optional afternoon activities include a village walk, nature walk to a waterfall, or the Batwa Cultural Trail (payable on site). Overnight at Ruhija Gorilla Lodge (full board).
After breakfast, drive back to Kampala with a lunch stop en route. Arrive in the evening for transfer to your hotel or the airport for your onward flight.
